The Srimad-Bhagavatam is considered the crest jewel of India's Vedic scriptures because it is the most comprehensive and authoritative. It was written in Sanskrit by Srila Krishna Dvaipayana Vyasadeva about 5,000 years ago when Lord Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, appeared on Earth, and contains twelve cantos or sections.
Of these cantos, the Tenth is considered the most confidential. This is because it describes many of the transcendental activities and miracles that the Lord performed and reveals the spiritual philosophy that He recommended for the salvation of mankind.
His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada translated the Tenth Canto into English, supplementing many of its verses with clarifying commentaries, and published it in the U.S. in 1970. The book clearly shows one how to attain the highest level of spiritual enlightenment, namely pure love of God.
The texts mention that when one listens to the pastimes of Lord Krishna regularly, one's heart and mind become purified, one's illusions and ignorance are dispelled and one's consciousness is elevated. Moreover one becomes filled with inner peace and bliss, and one gains true, lasting happiness and an opportunity to return home, back to Godhead. This book is published by the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust.
